Age: 35
Occupation: Jack of all trades!

About:

Driver: Brian

I am 35 and have been competitive all my life.  Everything I do, I turn into a competition.  It does not matter if it's sports, games, intelligence...I turn it into a competition.

I grew up around competition, as both of my parents are competitive (as are a lot of my other relatives)...so it is kind of ingrained in me.  When the family got together for a family-friendly game of Yatzee, it was not uncommon for all-out fights to erupt!  In addition to growing up with a competitive family, I grew up around cars and racing.  My dad has been building and racing stock cars and drag cars since the 60's.  In my teen years I was often in the garage helping my dad build hot rods (currently he has a 32 Ford Hi-Boy which has been in several magazines including Playboy!) and helping my mom restore 57 Ford T-Birds.

I started racing BMX bikes when I was 5 and continued to race BMX and road bikes into my teens.  Once I was in my teens I found the hobbies of racing 1/24th scale slot cars and 1/10th scale R/C cars.  I was continually tweaking my cars to beat the competition...and I was notorious for finding the loop-holes in the rules to give myself the edge.  I started my first business (Trendsetter Racing Products) at 14-years-old making components for both R/C cars and slot cars.  After I got my drivers license, my parents got me into what is known as Chicagoland Style Gimmick Road Rallyes.  My navigator (my wife Jennifer) and I quickly moved through the ranks into the Masters class, surpassing my parents, within our first year competing.  The following year, we started our own rallye team called "OneEyedJack's Rallye Team" producing our own rallyes so tough that most seasoned rallyists were humbled.

Now, at almost 36, I race BMX bikes nationally (along with my nationally ranked 9-year-old daughter), race road bikes, play competitive poker, fly airplanes, wall climb, canoe, backpack, and compete in various road rallyes.

Well I can't say as I am anywhere nearly as competitive as Brian, at least not when I am not around him!  But something about him makes me competitive.  I love to play games, especially ones that challenge my brain, but sports have never really been my thing.

Growing up, I had 4 younger brothers, so there was always a little bit of competition around that.  I was also always competitive about my grades and how well I did in school, but outside of that, I didn't really try too hard to compete with anyone.  I wouldn't call myself aggressive, but I know when and how to assert myself if needed.  After I met Brian, I think that is when I found my more competitive self.  Our first road rallye was a challenge in many ways, but mostly in the sense of dealing with his competitive/aggressive nature and learning how to communicate with one another.  Even to this day, when we get into a pressure situation our communication tends to break down a bit.  However, almost always, I am right!  He will say he is right, but we all know that the female of our species is the smarter.

As a business person and teacher, I try to envision the big picture strategy and use my creative problem solving skills to approach any problem.  Brian and I are a very good team when it comes to strategy and creativity which has helped us solve quite a range of problems in life.  My overall goal in life is to have fun and be the best that I can be at whatever it is I do.

Oh yeah, almost forget - I hate Monopoly now because of Brian, but I kick his butt every time at Trivia Pursuit and Scattergories - in your face Bri!

Mission Statement:

Team FJ Cruiser's mission statement is simple: To conquer and destroy all the competition and have fun doing it!

About My Team:

Team FJ Cruiser:

We are a husband and wife team.  We have been married for almost 12 years and have 2 children.  We are extremely competitive and have been competing in gimmick road rallyes together for over 13 years.  We usually work together really well...unless we disagree with each other…then we don’t work together so well!  We compete with each other all the time to outdo each other in games, puzzles, cooking...yes even cooking...and it’s no wonder she won't play Monopoly with me anymore!?!?  We both enjoy driving and usually drive around 30,000 miles a year as a couple.

One of the reasons we would love to get on the 3rd season of Bullrun is so my mom can get a chance to see us compete on national TV, as she was diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer last year.  I would have actually wanted my dad to be my co-driver, because he would have gotten a real kick out competing in Bullrun (he actually wants to do one of the “real” cross-country rallye/races) but he would not want to be away from my mom that long.

Since my wife is a college instructor, I have a back-up navigator, in case I happen to get picked for Bullrun 3 and it is filmed during the school year.  My back-up navigator is a flying budding of mine from college.  He is one of the most uncompetitive, non-aggressive people I know, so that would be interesting to see the dynamic between us during a competition like Bullrun!
