Bullrun/Cannonball history

In the late 70's  I deigned to run the "Cannonball Baker Coast to Coast Trophy Dash". Before it was Hollywoodized.

We built a V-8 Vega (4-bolt main 366) with a Doug Nash  5 speed,  45 gal. fuel cell,,  P-7 Pirelli's on Minilites , Koni,  Recaro, and disc brakes from the Cosworth version. Hell, we even had NASA urination technology....

Only one problem... we wren't entered yet.

The grandaddy of this event was Brock Yates, then the editor of  "Car and Driver". That publication was not about to give out his phone number, so I called his mother in upstate NY.

Charmed her.

Later, Brock convinced me that we had not the racing experiance to compete in such a prestegious event,  nor sufficient insurance, and were lkely to have our licences suspended forever for our efforts.

As my daughter says today: whatever!!!

Have fun guys and gals...and... I WILL KICK YOUR A****S!

The gauntlet is thrown.
