Anyone in here running a 4.6 dohc I've got a few tech ???'s and need some insyght about the 4.6 I'm building a stroker motor and deciding on wether or not to do the big bore setup on this... a stock stroker kit takes the 4.6=281 cid to 5.1 which I believe makes it a 304 (not real sure) but is also setup for 2v not 4v applications I know they are similar but a stroker kit off the shelf drops the compression ratio drastically in a 4v so new pistons would need to be added my?? is should I do the reg 5.1 stroker set up or the big bore? and what are the gains verses the problems such as overheating issues I've heard of I would figure and better cooling system setup rather than the stock would take care of this issue and besides a sustained run at 7000+ rpm's really shouldn't be an issue my ecm has been reflashed with a system which allows me to alter the parameters so the fuel cut off has been shut off so essentially I should be able to twist this engine to 8-8500 rpm with no grenading issues but again I don't know really which way to go on this any suggestions would be appriciated ............"Tires are meant for traction and excessive public display of power" <<< Thats a real ticket in Ohio too I've had 4 so far and don't intend to stop yet thanks again *TJ*

u kno my answer theres no replacement for displacement. bore it stroke it and throw in a longer rod 30 over will do since i know ur motor and you may want to clean up cylinder walls but not too much to cause a heat issue....imo
Why not just build a 460 BBF? ALOT cheaper to build ALOT of horsepower.... but if you want to stick with a DOHC motor than more power to yah
How much power are you shooting for?
you have to consider the 460 bbf weighs at the least tipping the scales at over 600lbs as to the 4.6 281 is around 450 and the teksid blocks will handle 1600 hp before the block needs attention so saving weight is my goal also buying a stand alone system is not cheap and I already have a cobra that runs in the 9's with a 4.6 4v so I'm just not real sure if the kits are worth the money due to the fact most 5.1 kits are setup for 2v's so the c/r is dropped severely and to compensate much more expensive pistons need to be ordered and for the money I think i can get as much hp outta 4.6 than a 5.1 for less as far as hp my 98 cobra is making around 850hp give or take a few it's a few years old but when it was freshly done it had 859hp at the wheels and dyno'd over 900 my goal for this motor is at least 1100hp or better also had a 460 a while ago installed a monster gorilla 552 stroker kit and blue thunder heads custom grind cam and all the goodies only got a 66 2+2 fast back no interior 12pt cage and tubbed into the 8's wanna try to get a sn 95 into the 7's this time around thanks for posting have a good one **Demonik 1**

What was done to the motor in your car now? Is it twin turbo, nitrous, or blower to make that much power?
It's blown it has a 3.4 Kenny Bell blower pushing around 24psi of boost .020" over pistons and other home brewed combinations

Big bore is a bad idea on an aluminum mod motor. Some companies will use iron sleeves to alleviate the reliability problems caused by utilizing such thin cylinder walls. If however you don't mind a "few" extra pounds, check out Modular Mustang Racing and look into their short blocks based on the 03-04 Cobra iron block.
