"There were no cops, no trees, no humans of any kind so we decided to wring out the little Ford. For 47 minutes straight the Fusion was pinned at 111 mph with the A/C on getting 25mpg. John, Gabe and I all sat there astonished. We made one fuel stop, saw no other Bullrunners and came in... are you ready... 6th place for the day! IN A RENTED FORD FUSION!! CAN I GET A BOOYA!!!

Ford people, if you are reading this contact me immediately because I don't think you know how good this little car is. Seriously, we should talk about perhaps producing some Ford Fusion "MR. ANGRY" editions. I LOVE THIS CAR!"

Seeing as how I'm going through Hot Rod archives anyway. Campbell later added an intercooler upped the boost and dyno-tuned the car to net 11.9 secs in the 1/4.

Ja-ja-ja!

True enough!

The replacement for displacement is better design ;-)

In that case, I'm all over it!

Did you know what Brock Yates was trying to prove in the original Cannonball (besides the fact that limits were stupid) is that a well-designed road car would outperform a pure-bred American race car over long distances.

I don't know about you guys, but I'm with Brock on this one...

right, but that's modified.

Out of the box, there aren't many big blocked cars that will run with a modern out of the box 4cyl turbo or for that matter a base v6 Mustang.

As much as I love old-school musclecars, technology has come so far in the last 30 years, it's amazing. You really wouldn't want to drive an all-original 60's big-block car cross country (4 wheel drums and bias-ply tires = fail). That's why I love resto-rods (pro-touring) because you get the best of both worlds...

If it's running against me - the correct term would be "the loser!"

What were you trying to show? I mean the winner overall was a 69 GTO, and there was a MAX ET of 11.49 for everyone. If they ran faster than that they would get DQ'd I'd also suspect that some of these are daily drivers only in the loosest sense of the word haha.

Simple, everyone's perception of speed has changed over the past 10 years, & what was fast pre-71 isn't that fast anymore -unless it's heavily modified.

I ran against mostly restored cars in the years between 1986-1994 and they were slow even then, compared to the restomods (the word restomod didn't even exist back then - we were building cars with light weight, modern features & were grandfathered in) amd the contemporary modifieds for the time. The cars I had the most to worry about, then were modern cars & that was 20 years ago.

Claims of tire difference are BS, because, then & now, they ran modern tires.

Ohhh if that's the case, you should have used something like this

http://www.musclecarclub.com/musclecars/general/musclecars-50fast.shtml

a bone stock car used to be fast at 13 seconds.

Though they used to roast their tires down the strip too. So actual times MIGHT be down to 12's or high 11's. That would kinda confirm your link.

Now a car that only does 12's on the track... needs work.

if you take the old cars and give them fuel injectors and electronic igniton timing like your little 4 and 6ix bangers they would stomp any one of them. so you have no argument in this aspect due to technolgy of the time.  So compare a 6 cylinder or a four cylinder whith points and a carb to a v8 then you will find your answer.  Best bang for the buck is spray.

You apparently didn't pass reading comprehension:

For the bazillionth time

The

rotating

assembly

is

good

for

700

horsepower.

I

plan

on

running

12

psi

for

around

385

horsepower

&

use

6th

(double

to

keep

it

out

Got it?

????

Wasting money would be buying a car in which I'd have to change every component anyway, and still not perform the way I want.

Sorry dude, there aren't many v8 engines that are capable of 700hp, including any 302 until the latest BOSS block (From the Factory) and the Man-O-War/Dart, etc, blocks in recent years. Even the Mexican Blocks weren't capable of that much power. The Big Blocks are, but then you have a handling deficit with that much weight over the nose.

I just need to swap the pulleys or convert to turbos, which is still a lot cheaper than buying an aftermarket block or a 4v engine. 2001+ blocks cost $3-400, there's no way you can get a 4v block for that amount of $$.

Can't get an LS block & build it either.

& regardless, the v8 engine straddles the front axle in fox applications which makes the handling spooky. I wouldn't touch ANYTHING newer than 1970 with a v8, because trying to make it handle is a mess or it was too heavy to even try.

I'm not sure you do.

2006 gto 6.0 rated at 400 hp small block.  You are going for only 385 horsepower. If you gave the 6.0 any nitrious kit that would cost about $500 and gave it an 80 shot which would handle it all day with nothing breaking. you could beat most cars on the road. but you spent aleast $1,100 on a new rotaing assembly, plus forced induction, exhaust , injectors, fuel pump and a dyno tune.

are you sure you know.

How much does a GTO weigh? and what's keeping me from either changing the pulley or twin charging it? There are several 3.8L v6s running both SC & N20.

Comes down to what you need, and balancing MPGs & power over a long distance.

EVEN IF it cost me 1.1K on a rotating assembly, with a $300 block, I'm still ahead. FI + comes with injectors. Don't need a new fuel pump at 12 psi, since it has the same pump as the GT/Cobra until 2003. Exhaust -GT takeoffs are around $100.

You clearly have no idea what you're talking about .. . If the spread were 6K I'm ahead on all fronts, not even counting MPG & insurance per month.

But I bought the car for 13K which was 15K less than a GT which has a ton of parts I'd replace anyway and as such are junk. Brakes, Shocks, Springs, Seats, Stereo, chargins system & have to do engine & chassis work on top of it.

There's a reason Ford chose V6s to build the new Cobra Jets.

No they're not.

You have no idea what you're talking about.

v6 cars weigh 200 lbs less than 302s & 350lbs less than 4.6Ls, they weigh 6500lbs less than the blown SVTs. they only weigh 3050 lbs, dude.
