JL Audio is pretty good stuff.

well start by saying what you want to replace.. Head unit, speakers, Ipod interface, subs.. etc. 

 Well def the head unit, and not sure about the others....if needed maybe....it's just the Bose system in the 350z is crap and the speakers keep cutting in and out. I've looked it up and it's pretty common problem..

What's wrong with the stock stereo?

 I have a clarion in my car a double din touch screen DVD etc.. and I love it no problems, Clarion is good quality as well as Alpine and Kenwood go to www.crutchfield.com put in your vehicle info and it will give you a bunch of options. My only regret is I didnt do navigation with mine. as for speakers Infiniti Mids and tweeters with your stock amps should sound great. If you want to do a sub Woofer later on I love the Alpine v12 series for the price.

I agree with GTO though JL: Audio rocks pretty hard, if you get the right Pioneer deck, you`ll be pretty happy with it too. Try and stay away from sony explode - they sound real good, up till the point where they burn out. B`leve it or not, there`s a few really good Kenwood decks out there too, but ya get what ya pay for, and JVC`s actually pretty good if you spend some money on it.

You talkin just deck, or speakers, crossovers, amp(s), sub, and power cap?

Okay seriously, I think you really need to star with what kinda syastem you are looking for. Cazy ass or just something that sounds decent  for a decent price. I have had really good luck with the Sony explode line. But hey thats just me.

Well, I guess it's the luck of the draw on Sony Explode - it really don't like me! It was pretty fantastic when the amp started smoking. Smells bad though, and hangs around for a long time after.

ok on a serious note. first thing you have to do is decide how serious do you want to go? second is decide on a budget. and who is going to install it?  you have a convertable wich makes it a lot more difficult to install and makes it a lot harder to get bass from your trunk..  as far as product goes, most of your main brands are pretty much the same i personally like jvc/sony/and pioneer decks.  for amplifiers and subs i am hooked on a new company called konaki. if you want help you can message me and ill give you some more info.

 I installed the Pioneer AVIC-F900BT in my scion. I like it. It has a little long start up time but has all the goodies :)

Still need to get a sub or two tho...

i dont like the way alpines interface with ipods.  the controls are very odd.  and to be honest jensen makes a good entry level speaker for someone who doesnt want to spend a lot of money.  frogger try 7elephants.com   ive bought an amp and some speakers from them and its a great deal.  the konaki subs are inexpensive and deliver an incredible amount of bass

 We have an Alpine in the cuda It's nice I like it and am familiar with the layout.  but the z has the bigger thing din whatever....I have the touring model which has all the extra added bonus (yeah like double triple good words lol) but now it has a bose sub and 6 disk changer and nav is included but all stock stuff.  We own a body shop so can do it ourselves....so i'm set there.  

as far as the large opening in the dash they make installation kits that fill the stock area so you would have a pocket underneath the deck. otherwise you can buy a double din deck with a tv display. the only issue with installing it yourself is that most newer cars route everything through the stereo so sometimes you have to install extra relays and switches.  also if you take it somewhere they warranty their work and if they make a mistake they pay to fix it.

I try now and then.. if you want NAVI its an extra unit you have to buy you can find it on ebay for cheap.. and you can upload maps to it VIA SD memory card (like what your camera uses for pictures)

 I already have navigation....so its not needed
