There seems to be very little allowed... I'm not sure I could drive cross-country without some rocking tunes, or something! What exactly is allowed, and what isn't?
I don't see bringing a lap top for storing pictures, videoo and vehicle tuning being a problem, but rule #3 does state no lap tops allowed lol
I'd also imagine that tunes would be ok when you are not filming, but who knows. I'd go NUTS with no tunes for 10+ days. You want to see somoene lose their mind...
I think limited access to a laptop for tuning would be ok. I'd like to be able to tune my car with the laptop for differences in altitude changes. If you know what you're doing a 5 min drive is all that is needed.
I guess the answer to my original question is "only cameras"?
Cause I know they have Nextels on Season 1, were those provided? What about data loggers? (probably not allowed because of being able to track mileage, etc.) or something like a P.A. system on the car? Strobes? How far can you actually push the rules once they've accepted your team?
I guess more specifically, what's not allowed on the cars in general? Some of us would like to know more before we spend money prepping the car for something it's not allowed to have... do you have to bring your own tools/fluids/spares/jacks?
And how do they disable the radios on the show cars? Remove them, pull a fuse, etc.? What about manual calculators, tools, clocks, etc?
I know this is kinda dumb, but going from the Real Thing where you can use anything you can get away with, to the show where they strip almost everything from you... this is a big adjustment in strategy.
I'd figure they disable the radios by telling you "Don't turn it on"... there you go.. :P If grown people can't obey rules they can get sent packing! wOoT!
No electronics would kill me. I'm used to having my gps, cb, radar detector and police scanner going at all times. Silence in the car would totally kill me.
I tend to think I'd have a good time with my dad as co-driver, but even that would get old after 2 weeks. He swears he's up to it, so I guess we'll have to wait and see. When he gets out of rehab, I'll work on an audition video. He's even more of a character than I am!
I'm very curious to the specifics involved in being a contestant on the show... like what things the massive questionnaire ask you, etc. But that's another topic.
Without all the nav equipment, how do you think you'd do, Sean? How much do you rely on that stuff? (and don't say "none" cause I know how useful that stuff is)
For me, I could never afford the tens of thousands of dollars of equipment to run a real attempt at the Bullrun/Cannonball routes, but take away all the fancy gizmos, and I'm right there in the running.
Well, we're not supposed to speed, so you shouldn't *need* a radar detector.
Since I won't be able to bring a computer for tuning, I'll have to use something like an Interceptor gauge that lets me check and reset SES codes, monitor the engine, etc. without actually being a computer.
I might bring a harmonica for the long desert stages (if we have any).
Hell I'm not a big fan of lap tops or gps but good god almighty no tunes I guess I can sing until they get tired of me singing and beg me to turn the radio on lol

About the radio thing - they don't really need to pull the fuse for that... They ARE sorta taping you throughout the entire run - I think they'd probably figure it out...
A map, some redbull, snacks, and open windows......camera the !@#$ out of the landscape and know that you'll be as comfortable as possible with your co driver.
I know they don't allow tunes because of the constant filming, but I haven't seen anything about musical instruments - any idea? Not that I can play, just wondering...
i dont have a normal gas tank......my car didnt have room underneath for the stock tank.....so i HAVE to have a fuel cell......i just dont think a fuel cell should be allowed in a factory car as a suppement......actually....i dont care really what is in anyones car.....ill beat em anyways lol

Yea I just dont think they are gonna let anyone pull a team shelby, but I think the no radio thing is fine I can roll without tunes on the radio and listen to my exhaust all the way..
I cant read maps for !@#$, and if I had a gps Id make someone else program it because I hate maps even on a screen. haha, Im strictly a driver who needs music
I ran this last weekend without all my dustball rally gear just to be ready. We don't hardly listen to the radio at all anyway. Just what that car has to say to us as we push it to its limits.

Camera's and video cameras. That's about it.
No cell phone, no lap top, no radar or laser detectors, no gps, no CB... Nothing that could help you any way.
And no... no tunes.
It also says no radios or CD players... I guess MP3 players would fall into that category?

I figured that all 3 were covered with "no tunes" lol
I wonder if they would allow a laptop for tuning purposes.. its a tool for the car..

No GPS. No prob. I'm a walking atlas now. No lap top. I'll make due. NO TUNES!!!! That's inhumane.
hey ill sing for the ride.... want me to bring the getar
no we'll just put cut out's on whatever we drive so we can use loud exhaust as the excuse for not singing. lol
i think radar detectors shoudl be allowed imo, the only advantage is saving you money lol.
LoL No tunes is bad but my co pilot says he will sing god help me but hey i think my DSM-link should be fine its not realy a comp and just for tuning

I want to know about fuel cells, and can you start out with a collection of road atlases? I have some of the best road atlases I have have ever seen.

Funky, I did'tn read your question till now lol.
I'd do ok without the electronics. I'm good at reading maps. I've had 3 jobs where I used maps every day.
I would miss my radar detector though. And my cb... And my scanner lol... Oh damn. this is ghonna be rough.
I cant read maps for !@#$, and if I had a gps Id make someone else program it because I hate maps even on a screen. haha, Im strictly a driver who needs music
