I've had a problem w/ my Hummy since the first day I bought it.   The rear passanger doors only open to about 75 degrees, so it's hard for a full grown person to get in and out of the vehicle.  I'm considering making the rear doors suicide (hinges on the back of the door rather than the front).  What do you think?

Recon 1, if you have the funds to do it than I say, DO IT!  That would be badasz.  I think it would look very cool if done right.

recon i would say sell it and get a BMW X5. they have more power and they are not a !@#$y chevrolet pile of crap

Lol Rick, I would sooner cut off my nuts.   As my Hummy stands now I have more horsies than an Aston Martin V12 Vanquish and I can go places that no BMW, Toyota, Subaru ect.... can go.   Have you lost your mind man, or has all that altitude deprived your brain of oxygen.   Besides my Hummy has a better Safety Crash test rating.

Lol,  Hummer currently holds the most wins above Toyota in almost all off road events including the Deca Rally.   Phtt.

the X5 crash test results are the same as the H3 5star driver 4star pass. and 5star rear seat. both front and side crashes...hahaha

the BMW X5 4.8l v8 makes 350hp at the wheels and the H3 5.3l v8 makes 300hp at wheels....hummm why does the BMW motor that is smaller make more power... oh i know why cause chevy sucks at building motors.... hahahaha owned!

Alrighty then... back on subject....

Be careful of the suicide door kit you get unless oyu plan to do your own... Many make the opening even tighter with both open. Just opening the rear door may be easier but still not more than 70% or so.

I say by all means DO IT, just be careful how it gets done.

NO! You will regret it. Your going to kick yourself period. ITs a pain in the ass and your always will be worry if they are going to fly open! I know it has happened to me. It sucks and trears up you car.

First Rick,  I would'nt believe anything from USNews,  besides in my humble opinion the H3 is not a luxury SUV it's a different class of vehicle.   Second they must have done that test w/ an H3 w/out the side curtian airbags, mine has a 5star safety crash test rating all the way around.  Third my Hummy has the 3.7 litre motor w/ the following Mods:  Supercharger, Predator Tuner, Custom Duel exhaust and manifold, Water/Methanol Injector System, Vented/Slotted Disc breaks w/ Ceramic Pads and Stainless Steel braided hoses, sway bar kit, and a few other mods I won't talk about.  I've also had it on a 4 Wheel Dyno for fuel mapping and tuning.  It produces right around 426 hp at the wheels and 436 torque.

 

Now back to the thread:   I will probabley build my own hinge kit simply because I don't like the quality of the kits currently out there if I decide to do it.

Sorry to say this Recon, but I'd take a Jeep anyday over a Hummer, just because even the Cherokee is smaller and more maneuverable.  Don't get me wrong, Hummers are cool, but my next truck is a Cherokee.

Suicide doors can be cool, but as Aaron said, they can be problematic.  I'd say leave it stock, and put up with the doors that barley open.

Lol Reb,  Cherokee is cool if you have no intention of off'roading.  I test drove the Cherokee, Commander, Liberty, Rubicon, Four Runner, Durango, Trailblazer, and Land Rover before I bought the Hummer.  I even borrowed most of them long enough to test them on the Hummer test track in Georgetown.   I had to have 3 of them towed out of the track (namely, Rubicon, Four Runner, and Land Rover).   The Cherokee has no redeaming factors compared to the H3.   I would suggest that you test drive an H3 before you buy.

 

As to the doors,  I have a CNC machine shop at my disposal should I choose to do this, and I've been a fabricator for long enough to do it right.

Doors would look pretty good. Doubt many people have done that to an H3. As far as vehicles go, to hell with everything already mentioned. I'd take my old Scout over any of 'em.

I've driven H3s man.  I like em, but thats a bit outta my price range right now.  I'm thinkin a nice low milage mid 90s XJ.  (Cherokee)

You can get a good used low mileage H3 for under 25k.  

 

And yea Cutlass I love old Scouts.
