What I've been doing in my spare time:

Here's one of my projects I've been doing in my spare time. I found this poor Schwinn chopper bike in the trash next door. Well, me being the guy I am, I couldn't leave it there.

Well, the bike looks pretty bad... everything was rusted solid.

My inspiration:

A lot of sandblasting, a cutoff wheel, and the frame is stripped and painted

And we start to put hardware on it, including new wheels and tires, bars, seat/post, crank, etc.

I'm still not finished, but getting closer! The story behind this bike is an interesting one. Basically, I've got a great friend who's wife has been diagnosed with MS. She's in her late 30's, two kids, love their whole family to pieces... they're great folks. So I'm preparing myself for riding in the local MS Tour in the beginning of October. I'd like to have the chopper done by then, but if not, I can always ride my trusty hardtail. The MS Tour is 2 days, 75 miles each day! It will be a challenge, and I will probably be the only guy there with a "cruiser" bike, but they don't know I'm going to be putting a Sturmey 8-speed rear hub on it. It will climb hills and cruise like a road bike, and look good doing it!

When October rolls around, I'll post up pics of the Tour and me riding the Chopper 150 miles in 2 days.

UPDATE!

Rebuilt the front wheel today, will do the rear this week. It's almost finished!
