I'm usually not the one to tailgate or rev the engine to get something started , but it seems that a orange corvette will make people believe that i'm asking for some... This story begins at a red light , i'm sitting there , pole postion when a red eclipse GS from mid 2000's pulls next to me , loud reagatton playing.., I take a brief look , the guy is no more that 20. He sees that i took a look and he starts to rev the engine! Oh yes , he wants some of me... gets me thinking , does this kid needs a little spank , should i let him live in his world of fairy tales? Or maybe he has a NOS! While i think this through , he revs and revs the engine... i press the gas once to make him beleive that i'm in and also to make him stop all the noise...
The light turns green and he takes off like a crazy SOB , smoking and spinning!! I don't , but the silver Chevy Trailblazer behind him follows fast and as they get around 60mph , he turns his red and blue lights on!!!! Yes , kiddo , a sheriff in a unmarked car! I can't see his face as he gets pulled over coz i'm laughting to hard!!!
I got me thinking though , what if instead of a eclipse GS , it was a mustang... what would corvettron have done?
Any funny stories anyone?

I usually just attarct the local kids.
they have no money or skills.
and there cars look/sound like isht.
@ least once a day. i have to blow the doors off something.
but the word is spreading and they just dont try any more.

I got one. I'v owned vettes and 5.0s my whole life but I usually have a second car to back up the toy. One day I was driving from a golf course to hooters with three of my friends in my 94 Buick Regal custom coupe 6cyl. 3800. We are talking 4 sets of clubs and 850 pounds of human. Yeah, I had a few beers on the course and I was not looking for a race. I'm in the buick for god sakes. Well, I pull up to this red light and this dude with a Honda or Nissan or something Asian is next to me. Don't get me wrong, I don't hate these type of cars. This one was loaded with bolt ons, big tires and 6" exhaust pipe. It sounded pretty good. I look over to see what type of car it was, he sees me and starts revving his engine, so of course I rev mine. It's in my blood, no matter what I am driving. Light changes, he takes off, I mash the pedal, he takes the lead but within 1000 feet I catch him and pass him. By 1/3 to 1/2 of a mile I am 7 car lengths ahead. He just got his ass kicked by a 94 Buick with 4 people in it. That was fun and I did make it to hooters to continue drinking.

I didn't for a long time.
Then I put a Competition Diesel sticker on my truck.
Something about that word "Competition."
I behave 99.9% of the time on the street. We have a hard enough time getting folks to take us serious on the track.. Nothing is worse for diesel motor sports than some jackoff in a big truck blowing smoke and breaking laws. So I usually don't get on it out on the street.
I have a pretty long fuse. Most folks don't realize what over 900 ftlbs of torque feels like at 30mph. You may dust me off the line, but if we are rolling along with a decent start.. Its on. :) I've only had a couple guys piss me off enough to turn the fuel up and really get on it.
One issue with diesels is that we get opaque emissions long before we hit stoiche. So while 600 pounds of black smoke coming out of the tailpipe generally means a poor tune, a slight haze is close to perfect for our vehicles. While turbo lag is frustrating for you gas engine guys, it generally means smoke is pouring out of our trucks before it lights.. You finally get under my skin enough for me to get on it, I'm not only going to dust your ass in an 8000 pound truck, but I'm probably going to replace most the oxygen around your car with soot... :)
Like I say. I won't do it often, and it REALLY pisses me off to see other diesel guys do it constantly.. But, there comes a point when that little rice rocket needs a lesson in horsepower.. and if you piss me off enough, I'll be your huckleberry.

The turnpike and the parkway here in Jersey, and the New England Thruway up in NY are all bad places for me to drive. I've been rolling along at 80 minding my own business so many times when cars go flashing by. I usually don't end up racing them, but I do end up chasing them. And then the game is whether they can lose me in traffic or not. A lot of times they do, because I love my car too much to squeeze in and out of tight spots between vehicles like some of the crazy @#$%&*^s I've chased have done. No thanks!! Just on a recent trip up to Boston last week, I chased down a beat-up looking Acura Integra into the triple digits, and coming home I pulled up next to a black R8 in traffic... when things cleared up it was *on* :) However most of the time, when the cars I'm chasing (or end up chasing me) exit, they flash their lights, wave, or beep their horn, as do I. One time it was a cute chick in a Porshe Cayman (my arach-nemisis car) that gave me a run for my money. Other times it's been just a crazy @#$%&*^ in a Jeep. Sometimes other cars join in as well and there are three or four of us all chasing each other down the highway. Crazy.
I hardly ever street race off a light.

To Dub Motor, the Buick is front wheel drive also. I think he was just having a bad day.
Funny thing is I used to get more people gunning on me when I drove my Suburban. My ex got a lot of people gunning on her in her Firebird. So much so that we had to actually make it competitive. Well we didn't HAVE to... but she hated to lose, soooo we did. By the time we were done we had a whole lot of car. Then when someone gunned on her, she would smoke them. But that didn't stop ricers from claiming victory after the race was over. You know... the flyby as you are making a turn into a residential area. Or as you are exiting the freeway. One even came back to the restaraunt we were headed to, to "gloat" about how he smoked her firebird. My response, "Who's your dealer? You HAVE to be on some good (stuff) to really believe that," and walked away. That's the problem with street racing. Even when you win, some kids will still claim victory.
*sigh* I miss that car.... After I left she blew the motor. Tends to do that when you race the thing and aren't paying attention to your oil pressure being 0. Ah well, gonna have to just build something else...
I get lots of punk kids revving on the Talon at stop lights, but they never seem to want any when I get on the stutterbox.

I got another one on a different tangent. I walked out of my friends house one night after a company christmas party, I was driving a 85 5.0 mustang that was worked big time. Man this car was insanely fast. When I get to the driveway I realize some jackass has pulled back the window frame and is trying to steal my ride. Holy !@#$ I freaked, called back to my buddy and this dude bolted. He jumped into a brown van that was waiting for him in the road and sped off. My friend came out and was like "Yo lets go get him." So we proceeded to chase this @#$%&*^ into North Philly the whole time we were on the phone with 911 trying to get the cops to back us up. I was on this guys tail, I'm talking inches doing about 110 for about 20 miles. This ride was insane! I'm yelling out the window at this clown, my buddy is on the phone with 911 the whole time and all the sudden we are in a very dark and nasty neighborhood and the van slows down to a crawl. He pulls up to a corner on a one way street and sees a bunch of his boys and says something to them and they look up and see me and start approaching the car. We are talking baseball bats and chains like some kind of bad movie.
Now i am like holy!@#$ we are now going to die! Their was about ten of them and two of us. We are on a one way street cars on both sides in North Philly at 2:30 in the morning. We have just made some serious enemies and you know what they say fight or flight. Guess what, it was flight time. I took it up on the curb, knocked over some trash cans, again like some bad chase movie. Really happened. And now the van we were chasing is know chasing us. Remember, we called 911 and got no help whatsoever. But as I am driving out of this nightmare, I see a cop about 2 blocks away going through an intersection. I floor it more than I already have it floored and get to the intersection. The cop has driven away and I am pissed. So I proceed to try and draw some attention. About 7 donuts later in the intersection I thought the cop would have turned around. He did not and was still driving away from what I thought was going to be a murder seen soon.
O.K. now I'm doing donuts trying to get a cops attention, still wondering where the van and his van boys went. I finally stop, my adrenaline pumping like I just jumped out of a plane, my friend gets out of the car and just starts yelling at the top of his lungs all kinds of obsentities. I got out and just wondered what the f+ck is going on. After being on that corner for about 10 minutes, gathering my sanity and my friend from wanting to kill somebody, we finally do see an officer of the law sitting a block away. We go running down and approach and say are you here to help us get these guys who tryed to steal my car. He looks at us a little funny and says No, I am here for a domestic dispute. We tell him the story and again the funny look and says I can"t help you and drives away. Really happened. Sware to god. So we get in the car and drive to our local police station.
We walk in and remember I was at a christmas party that night so I have had a few. So did the friend. We try to approach gingerly, tell the cops behind the bullet proof window, who I sware to god were playing cards, and again that funny look after we told them the story of what just happened for the past hour and a half. They finally said, did you get the plate #? Of course I did, I was wearing the plate on the front end of the mustang for 20 miles. We tell them and they are like, uhm that is a stolen plate, we can't help you at all. Are you kidding me! WTF! Now we are yelling at these cops. Philly guys, right. So one cop is like, well let me see your car, looking for damage. I take him out side and he looks and says, I don't really see any damage, I was like of course not, I bent back the window frame that they effed up. He walked away and we got in the car with our tails between our legs. Oh yeah, before we left the cop station the one cop said, hey at least you guys did'nt get hurt. Yeah! Thanks for all the help! I guess I am still a little bitter about that whole incident. That was a sh#tty night.
^^^whole lotta drama right there! crazy night!
Wierd, I actually daily drive a stock honda and the only cars I ever have reving at me are the friggin domestics! Especially if it's after 8:00pm and you want some taco bell... pull up to a light, kid in a mustang with his stupid loud music staring at you.... next light, kid in an Iroc staring at you...next light, kid in a cummins or a newer gto starring at you....I JUST WANT A QUESADILLA, MAN!
Most of the "ricers" here are domestics...rarely do I race them anymore, but every once in a while you gotta have some fun!

The guy in the cummins probably isn't trying to rev his engine at you.... More than likely, either the lift pump has gone out and he is trying to keep it running, or the torque converter is so shot that it is screwing with the idle.. You just THINK he is reving at you. :D

By the way they can't be ricers if they're driving domestics... unless they've actually riced out their car... At most posers. WHOLE LOTTA them.
I was cruising the goat last night and pulled up next to a bright blue RSX type S yesterday. He revved up his car and had the most obnoxious exhaust so I looked over and gave him a thumbs down (cause the car seriously sounded like !@#$.) Well I take off like normal and he keep effin with me...and the next light we're first up, and he revs up his passenger said something about me being a pussy....I laugh.
I give it a little rev before the light goes and hes revving to the moon to be in his powerband....I launch pretty much off idle slip the clutch a little bit and the car loses all traction, I bang into second and I'm sideways with no traction...I had 4 cars on him by the end of second, sideways, blowing smoke off the tires.....it was rediculous. I'm sure if I'd gotten traction it would have been much worse for him, but probably not look near as impressive.

Yes granted IF YOU KNOW HOW TO DRIVE YOUR CAR. if you floor it all the time you will never get any where. It isnt about HOW MUCH HP you have. Its about HOW MUCH HP CAN YOU USE?
You will not run into the tire blowing events. (no offence summer) but @ the same time you should be able to gain traction with a little more inertia. (rolling starts) unless your TQ exceeds your inertia. and over powers your wheels or you have weather as a factor.
The point is IF you can drive your car then yes you shouldn't have the burn out effect unless you want it.
In my town we have so many different surfaces on the streets its hard to judge where you will lose traction and where the best place to hook up are. (not always there when you challenged.) we have SMOOTH concrete @ all our major intersections. and blacktop on the smaller ones. and sand covered crap. ect.....
so in 1 mile i could have picked up some dust and rolled over some rocks and come to a concrete intersection. (by myself) and TRY to get rolling and spin my tires through 2nd.
+ jonnyb yea your buick is FWD. but those things have some kind of crazy gear ratio in them like a power band, CVT or something. and besides those 3.8 GM motors are tough (Grand National) i know yours isnt the same but basically.

Very well said.....and if you know your car really well, you should be able to compensate for the most part for each type of surface.....with that being said, it is a lot easier to do if you have a 5 speed manual, as your can modulate the clutch a little more....the only time I refuse to race is if it is raining and/or if the road is wet, unless it is a closed course.

Crusing on I4 the other day ( tourist Interstate if you aren't familiar with central florida) , following a Maxima on the right lane in the middle of a pack , tinted windows , chromed exhaust... when the guy has the bright idea to clean his windshield. We aren't talking little drops here , it's like i'm following James Bond... I don't know about you guys , but when i clean the front windshield , i try to avoid pissing off the people behind. Anyway , i hardly make my way around the pack ( love it when lost tourists all drive at the same speed on all three lanes!) , the guy is on his cell , doesn't notice anyone around him... Well , his about to notice me hehe! Get in front off him and unleash a biblical flood! ( well , not really coz my spriklers arent all that powerful , but i give him all i can give!) . The guy flashes his lights and begin to tailgate me! I guess he doesn't like it either! With the open road ahead , it's time to leave him before the road rage definatly kicks in , i drop 4th gear and push it... and spray him still...
He gave up after about a mile , i guess the phone conversation was more important....

He got an ideal launch, me I rooked up and didn't....but me basically doing a show off second gear rolling burnout put car lengths on that POS

JonnyB, you're lucky that you guys were in the right car for the chasing. I remember when one of my friends fathers took his 2001 TransAm to get groceries, brought it home, and left the keys on the seat as he brought them in. Immediately after his father walked into the house, we hear his car start up (we're both being lazy watching TV). It took a matter of seconds to realise that no one else could be driving the car and run outside to see a nice little peelout trail and his car being stolen. We tried to chase it down in his Yukon but we could only stay behind for so long.
Cops found his car in a ditch, missing the front bumper and with a bent hood. The internals were fine though and he got a decent insurance claim from it, got a Ram Air hood and a new bumper. Not too bad!

Man, just did this very thing the other night, thru NJ on the Parkway. It appears that no one pays any attention to the speed limit in NJ when you're on the highways (not that I mind) -- but during the few days we were in NJ, seemed like every time we were on the road we'd end up in a pack of about 5 cars all smoking thru traffic. There was lots of flashing of lights (parking lights usually) to let each other know who was who, I'm guessing. Makes for a fun and quick trip through NJ tho ;)
On a side note -- seemed like every once in a while one of the cars would zip off the front, get a ways ahead, and then flash their parking lights -- anybody know what that signifies? Was it them saying "Hey, it's cool to race up to this point, there's no police around" ?
